CASE STUDIES

SSK

SSK operates an industrial truck wash for complete tractor-trailer units, the largest enterprise of its kind in Austria, as well as nine concrete plants across the country. The company installed an Ayus fitting at its truck wash in 2003 that eliminated calcium build-up from the water heaters and other equipment. The company was so impressed by the results it also installed fittings at its nine concrete plants. Here's how Ayus helped:

Before Ayus

Calcium buildup in the water heaters was an ongoing problem at all SSK operations, causing corrosion, high energy consumption, and preventing the equipment from running at full capacity. At the concrete plants, the heat exchangers and heating rods had to be dismantled and acid cleaned at least once a year to remove scale, which then would start to reappear within a few months.

Excessive calcification also prevented the spray nozzles used to hose down vehicles at the truck wash from working properly. The recycled water storage tanks at the truck wash had to be chemically treated daily to discourage bacterial and algae growth and emptied every three months. The water then had to be disposed as hazardous waste because of the chemicals used to treat it.

After Ayus

The company recouped the costs of Ayus fittings installed at each operation in less than 12 months through various savings on energy, water treatment, and cleaning agents. Calcium buildup disappeared from all water heaters, which now function at full capacity and have a longer projected service life. At the truck wash, the spray nozzles also are scale-free and recycled water no longer requires chemical treatment and can be safely stored and used for up to two years. Furthermore, because of the superior performance of Ayus water, the use of soaps and detergents has decreased by up to 30%.
